  • Promote scholarship
  • Disseminate information related to ESOL
  • Strengthen instruction, teacher training, and research in the teaching of English to speakers of other languages

Supporting Immigrant Students with Trauma Backgrounds

Many learners arrive in U.S. schools having faced traumatic experiences affecting their ability to become academically successful. This session reviews how trauma impacts learning and provides specific suggestions to make schools more culturally, socially, linguistically, and educationally supportive for trauma-impacted learners. Presenters provide research-based suggestions helping students build internal resilience.
