WAESOL, the Washington state affiliate of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), is a professional, non-profit organization whose purposes are to:
  • Promote scholarship
  • Disseminate information related to ESOL
  • Strengthen instruction, teacher training, and research in the teaching of English to speakers of other languages

I demonstrate how to teach four simple poems for different levels and purposes—k-12, adult education, refugee & immigrant programs, and college writing classes. I provide lesson plans, original materials, and steps in creating class anthologies to build writing communities where learners tell their stories and claim lived experiences.
