WAESOL, the Washington state affiliate of Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), is a professional, non-profit organization whose purposes are to:
Promote scholarship
Disseminate information related to ESOL
Strengthen instruction, teacher training, and research in the teaching of English to speakers of other languages
Secondary multilingual learners often get stuck for years in literacy remediation programs. As an alternative to traditional interventions, this session describes a literacy framework grounded in students’ strengths and local needs. Participants will learn how to transform prescribed curriculum into community-engaged projects that build literacy skills and self-efficacy.
Anny Fritzen Case is a faculty member at Gonzaga University who previously taught ESL in K-12, community, and university settings. These days, she loves hanging out with her Gonzaga students and multilingual middle schoolers!
